On May 12th, 2023: The Driftwood Station of the North Hays County Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle vehicle accident on West Main Street involving three patients, one of whom was critically injured and required extrication procedures to be carried out.
RESPONSE: 16 PERSONNEL / 6 APPARATUS / 2 AGENCIES
A total of 10 firefighters, 4 EMTs, 2 Paramedics, and 6 apparatus were deployed to the scene, including 3 ambulances for medical support. Firefighters worked diligently to extricate one patient from a vehicle pinned between the two other vehicles involved in the accident.
DAMAGE: 2 MINOR / 1 CRITICAL
North Hays County EMS dispatched three ambulances to respond and treat three patients. Two patients suffered minor injuries are were transported BLS to a nearby hospital. The third patient suffered serious, life threatening, injuries as a result of the accident and was transported by ALS / Paramedics to an area hospital after being extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel
CAUSE: DISTRACTED DRIVING
Texas State Troopers determined the cause of the accident was due to distracted driving. Accident investigators determined the driver of the vehicle held at fault had been distracted by a mobile device when approaching an intersection resulting in a T-Bone collision. Upon impact, one vehicle was guided into the path of a parallel vehicle resulting in a rollover accident.
