Hays County Emergency Services District No. 6 is a political subdivision of the State of Texas operating as North Hays County Fire Rescue (NHCFR). NHCFR is a combination fire and rescue organization providing professional emergency services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of northern Hays County.

NHCFR provides a comprehensive range of emergency and community risk-reduction services, including fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical first response, rescue, hazardous materials incident response, and public fire and life-safety education. These professional services are delivered through a combination of career and volunteer personnel working together to provide a responsive and sustainable emergency service system.

NHCFR serves approximately 245 square miles of northern Hays County, including the communities of Dripping Springs, Driftwood, and Henly, as well as surrounding rural and rapidly developing areas. NHCFR operates from eight strategically located fire stations, positioning personnel, and emergency apparatus throughout the service area to support timely responses for a wide range of emergencies.

NHCFR maintains a modern fleet of fire, rescue, medical first-response, wildland, and support apparatus appropriate for the diverse risks and geographic characteristics of the Texas Hill Country. The combination of strategically located stations, career personnel, and active volunteer membership provides the organization with the ability to expand its response capacity and effectively address both routine and large-scale emergency incidents.

In addition to emergency response, NHCFR places a strong emphasis on prevention, preparedness, and community engagement. Through fire prevention and public education efforts, the department collaborates with residents, businesses, and community partners to reduce risk, improve fire and life safety, and strengthen the overall resilience of the communities it serves.

NHCFR’s combination-department model represents the continued evolution of a community-based fire service that was established through volunteerism and has grown into a modern professional emergency services organization.
